RJR:  Homeopathy is considered an art and a science. In fact it predated modern-day science and was discovered by a German physician in the 18th century. Last week, I attended the Homeopathic Research Institute’s major conference in London – and there professors, PhDs and homeopaths presented their research on the effectiveness of homeopathy through scientific clinical trials. NS: What are all the homeopathic books, materia medica, case studies and trials of the past two centuries if they are not science? “Non-scientific” is used as a stick with which to beat homeopathy, but although it sometimes hurts, it hasn’t really had any effect on those who study homeopathy, practise homeopathy and, most important of all, get better as a result of homeopathy. There was a time when science was derided and persecuted by the orthodoxy of religion; now “science” is the new quasi-religious orthodoxy and its fanatical adherents (just as the religious zealots of the past did) rail against anything that challenges their accepted paradigm. Science needs to be inquisitive and totally open-minded… the mechanism of homeopathy may defy complete explanation but that doesn’t make it unscientific.
